What frequencies does GSM use?
GSM in North America operates at frequencies of 1900mHz and 850mHz. GSM in the rest of the world operates at 800 and 900mHz. Since handsets designed for the North American market typically only work on 1900mHz, most handsets will not work worldwide. In order for a customer to use their handsets in other countries, they must purchase a dual band world phone.
