LIFELINE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Low-income telephone or broadband internet access service assistance is available to qualifying low-income Iowans through the “Lifeline” federal assistance program. Supporting documentation to prove eligibility must be provided for participation in the program.
Iowans who participate in at least one of the following programs may be eligible for assistance: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Federal Public Housing Assistance, or The Veteran’s Pension or Survivor’s Pension benefit. Those who do not participate in one of the above programs may be eligible if their income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Eligible subscribers may only receive one Lifeline benefit (either wireline or wireless) per household. To apply, applicants should call 1.888.550.4497 and request an application. An application is also available at the Iowa Utilities Board website at: Lifeline Application.
In the state of Iowa, iWireless offers Lifeline eligible post-pay customers a monthly $9.25 bill credit and pay in advance customers 7 days of unlimited talk, text, and 1.87 GB of data. The following services are available for Lifeline rate plans:
- 500 minutes per month minimum of domestic voice services
- 500 MB data per month minimum
- Access to emergency services
